On
formal invitations, all names, the day, date and time are spelled
out; the year is optional, but if it is included, it is also spelled
out. Street addresses, however, may be written numerically. The
phrase "the honour (or "honor") of your presence"
is used only when the event is held at a place of worship. For formal
events not held at such a place, "the pleasure of your company"
is used. Proper titles are used for every person on the invitation.
For example:
Mr.
and Mrs. Elliot Crewe
request the pleasure of your company
at a holiday gala and benefit for
The Little Theater on Main
Saturday, December fifth, two-thousand and three
at half-past seven o'clock
322 Lakeside Drive
Cleveland, Ohio
This
format can be adjusted to fit different events and various hosts;
it also can be relaxed somewhat to accomodate semi-formal events.
Informal invitations, of course, have few "rules". Just
remember to include all pertinent information for your guests.
